Polar Animals

In Reading Groups we have been learning all about Polar Animals.  Each group chose an animal to study for the month of February.  We asked questions, did research, wrote reports, and created things!  We learned SO MUCH and really improved on our Reading and Language Arts skills while doing so.  We created a nice display in our hallway for everyone to see.  Even the big 5th graders enjoyed our display and learned information from our reports!!!  The display is still up if you want to come by and take a look.  (We did lose a few pieces in the wind this weekend, but thankfully most things survived.)  Here are some pictures in case you don't get to stop by and see the display.
Walrus (Mrs. Szlosek's class)
Real life size!!

Arctic Hare (Mrs. Treur's class)

Penguin (Ms. Gilbert's class)

Real life size of the smallest penguin!

Real life size of the largest penguin!
We measured and graphed ourselves against the Emperor penguin.
Most of us are taller than one!

Polar Bear (Ms. Fischer's class)

That is how big a polar bear's paw is!

Polar Bears can be 10 feet tall....WOW!

We hope you enjoyed our display!

Pedro and Penelope...and a few field trip pics!

The first graders in my reading group have been taking home our classroom penguins as part of our Animals in Winter/Arctic Animals unit!  Pedro and Penelope have been very busy the last couple of weeks.  Here are a few pictures of their adventures!

Penelope went to Gatorland with Mae.

Yikes Penelope!

Penelope went camping with Emily!

Penelope roasted marshmallows!

Pedro worked on a puzzle!

Pedro went skateboarding with Austin!
Pedro LOVED floating in the pool!

We had a successful field trip to Blue Springs.  We saw manatees, fish, and a big alligator! One group even saw a snake while eating lunch.  Thank GOODNESS it was NOT my group!  I was so busy doing the scavenger hunt with my group I forgot to take pictures while we were there!
We were all EXHAUSTED by the time we got on the bus to go home and most of us fell asleep!  (I did get a few pictures of that!)

I hope you all had a nice 3 day weekend!  See you in the morning!

Predictions and Hundredth Day...part 2

We made our predictions about Punxsutawney Phil on Friday.  Was your prediction right?  Did Phil see his shadow?

Here are some more pictures from our Hundredth Day of School!
